So out of forty-two generations mentioned in Matthew 1:1-16, only five women are mentioned?
Let me tell you what I think. I believe these women represent the nature of Christ.
Thamar – vengeance is mine. God will be our avenger. On That Day no one will say, wow that wasn’t fair. God will be a fair and just judge and every knee will bow and every tongue confess that He is Lord.
Rachab – God our deliverer. No matter what situation you are in, God wants to deliver you. It might come from an unexpected and possibly questionable source, but God will show you the way out…. out of heartbreak, disappointment, fear, anger, anything.
Ruth – God our provider. God will provide for us as we stay faithful to what he is showing our heart. It might mean going to a strange place, but in that place, he will be there giving us what we need.
Bathsheba – God our forgiver. God is the God of the second chance. We never know a person’s heart, but we do not that the heart of God is- if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Mary – God the humble servant. Be it unto me according to thy word and not as I will, but as thou wilt are spoken by Mary and her Son.
May we trust God to be our avenger, deliverer, provider, and forgiver while we humbly serve His will.
